Amazon printing cost adjustments - September, 2023

On September 6, 2023, at 12:00 AM UTC, Amazon is making changes to printing costs to better align with today’s cost of materials and labor. As a result, the payout for print books will change.

For books shipped after September 6, 2023, at 12:00 AM UTC, the new printing cost rates will apply. Your printing costs are deducted from your payout, so an increase or decrease in the printing cost will cause your payout amount to be smaller or larger (respectively).

There will be three changes to printing costs:

• An increase in the per-unit cost for all paperback and hardcover books.
• A new per-page cost for paperback and hardcover books with large trim sizes to cover the additional cost to print these books. A large trim size is either more than 6.12 inches (155 mm) in width or 9 inches (229 mm) in height.
• A decrease in the per-page cost for regular trim size, color ink books ordered from some Amazon stores as outlined in the printing costs tables below.

Please note that only paperback rates are relevant to PublishDrive users, since at the moment we do not offer the hardcover option.
